We eat a lot of rice and my doctor recommended we switch to brown rice.Boiling it resulted in a sticky mush half the time so I began looking for a rice steamer. After searching a lot of sites, I purchased the Metro Rice Cooker 5 1/2 Quart #1042.I am very pleased with it. I make two cups of rice at a time and it turns out firm and seperate grains every time. I can reheat the left over rice and it is as good as when it was first cooked. It works just as well if you replace the water with broth.

Great Steamer.I use it to steam everything.I gave it 4 stars only because I wish the insert was non-stick so that I don't have bits of rice sticking to the insert after steaming (bit of a pain to clean after use).Otherwise this pot does what it is supossed to do.
Rating: - Excellent Rice Steamer
This is virtually identical to what South Carolina lowcountry folks, and specifically Charlestonians, have cooked rice in for generations.It is also perfect for recipes such as red rice and will keep rice hot and ready to eat practically indefinitely, at least until all the water in the bottom boils away.Also perfect for steaming ham biscuits, dinner rolls, etc.

After using this product several times and following the instructions, we had perfect rice. I highly recommend this product and it is an excellent value for the money.
It is best to hand wash only. After soaking in soapy water for five or so minutes, it cleans easily without scouring.

We are serious rice eaters and was given this rice cooker as a gift from my mother-in-law in South Carolina many years ago. I was so glad to see I can order another from here.This is the best way to ensure that your rice is perfect everytime, regardless of what kind you are cooking.
