I have been a wine lover for many years. I can drink quite a bit more than you average guy. It is not out of the question to drink 8-10 glasses of wine in a day. I always drink at night after work and never had any negative effects on the job as I can function fine the next day. The problem came a year ago when in a routine physical my doc did blood tests and my liver function tests showed VERY elevated levels...like over 3-4 times what they should be. Rating: - Reduced my liver enzymes nearly by 50%!
I am diabetic and also take statins as well as Metformin. Both of these drugs can cause liver damage. I had also been a heavy drinker and my liver enzymes were high. In 8/04 my ALT was 112, in 10/07 it was 51, this was after taking LiverCare for only 10 weeks, my latest test was 35 on 1/2/08. My AST was 90 in 04, 49 in 07, and 24 in 08!
