Amazon.com Review:
Warm the body and soul on a cold winter's night with a home-cooked meal of spicy chili or comforting baked macaroni and cheese. To prepare either dish, Rachael Ray offers this covered 5-1/4-quart casserole. The casserole's oval form fits neatly on stovetops, while the construction adapts for oven use. Crafted in cast iron, the casserole resists warping and breakage, while it deftly retains and distributes heat. The porcelain-enameled coating eliminates the need for pre-seasoning along the casserole's interior, which most cast-iron cookware requires. To transport contents to and fro, the casserole proffers two loop handles on the short sides of its oval form. The fitted cast-iron lid contains flavor and heat for more efficient and tasty cooking. A top-mounted knob aids in easy lid removal. For the best care, allow the casserole to cool before washing it by hand. Avoid abrasive scrubbing pads and harsh cleansers to preserve the casserole's enamel. Dry immediately to prevent corrosion. A limited lifetime warranty covers the China-made casserole. The casserole measures 17-1/3 by 10-3/4 by 6-2/3 inches and weighs 16-1/5 pounds upon shipping. --Jessica Reuling

- Cast iron casserole
Good looking, good cooking casserole. Perfect for chicken and a small duck. Easy cleaning. Best for the price (comparing to another "cast iron" brands)
Rating:
- Great Pot
We have the smaller Rachael Ray casserole and it works great on camping trips in the RV, but the oval casserole is better in that it can hold a whole chicken, a large gumbo or most anything we use to make in the dutch-oven at home -- with these two added features of being easier to clean and looks great as a serving dish. In addition, the shape makes it easy to stir and serve in.

- Some problems emerging with the casseroles.
These "made in China" casseroles are pretty, and similar to Le Creuset in appearance, enamel over cast iron, however people are noticing the enamel does not stand up well to heat, and it cracks. (See reviews on "Rachael Ray 3-1/2-Quart Cast-Iron Covered Round Casserole, Blue", and talk with peoplewho handle returns at your dept. store.)
Additionally, the casserole has a cheap phenolic (plastic) handle on the top cover, which the manual says are "oven safe" ONLY up to 350 F temperature. ... Read More
