Just as A Bug's Life was a computer-animated comedy inspired by Akira Kurosawa's The Seven Samurai, the funny and often enthralling Ice Age is a digital re-imagining of the Western Three Godfathers. Rating: - A genuinely fun movie
There aren't too many movies I can say I would watch over again - especially not animated ones. However, Ice Age is an exception. This is a genuinely fun film, with great animation and a well-paced storyline. It is appropriate for children of all ages, but adults can appreciate the wry humor as well. I think it has a greater staying power and wider appeal than the Pixar films, which tend to appeal mostly to a younger audience. Rating: - Rough Edges, But a Lot of Charm
The title pretty much sums it up.There are a lot of rough edges.Literally, even, because the animation is no where near as smooth as Pixar's.Also the story itself and the dialogue are a bit rough in places, especially the array of bad puns that makes up the opening scene.Most of the film feels like one of those "kids will love it, adults will cringe" movies, but as if by a sneak attack, the characters suddenly grab you from behind and you, the viewer, suddenly cares what happens to them.The story ...
