- Great Options , not always compatable
This recorder did everything we wanted it to do. Mainly burning our old home movies, off our Sony Handycam, from 8mm to DVD. Our only problem was that the format is not compatable with our HP computer. So we are hoping to find some software that will allow us more editing capabilities, like adding music to some of the DVDs. It would have been nice if the company had either included some software or recomended something.

I bought 2 refurbished units, one for my dad and one for me. The main selling points were the digital tuner and recordable to either vhs or disk. Dad's dvd wouldn't open at all and had to be sent back for a replacement but had to do some real fighting with the company that claimed to have "refurbished" it. Now mine's vcr isn't working.There was dust on the inside all over the dvd tray. The tracking is broken on the vcr and of course the 30 day so called warrenty is past. At least the tuner and dvd ... - Does everything as advertised
We are pleased with our new Philips combo DVD. It does all that we expected. DVD playback is perfect. NO skipping. We have yet to burn any disks from VCR tapes though. I don't doubt there will be any problem archiving home movies.

I was looking to replace an old VCR that was on it's last legs.I time-slip all my TV viewing on a Panasonic DVR so I never have to watch commercials.Occasionally, there a two programs on at the same time that I want to watch and so the VCR comes into play.I have extended basic cable and no cable box so my new VCR had to have a coax input.I was very surprised to find that newer VCRs and many DVD/VCR combos don't have that and must be hooked up to a cable box.This model did have the connections ... I like the HDMI connection and the picture on my TV.Great one-touch VHS to DVD transfer feature.Easy to use and a value at the price I paid.
