Rating:
- One shortcoming; one advantage
It works very well tagging photos (that is .jpg files). It DOES NOT deal with raw image files (at least not Nikon .nef files).BUT, you can export the log file in a standard text format and use another program like LOCR to tag the raw files directly.
Also, I plan to write some Excel macros to use the log data files to calculate the vertical feet I ski in a day, something I've looked for a GPS device to do for several years.
Rating:
- Not there yet
Great idea but the software doesn't work well on a Mac and it's difficult to get the time stamps to sync with the camera if you're shooting a lot of photos. This means that locations don't match exactly with the photos. Also, the software repeatedly crashes and log files seem to get corrupted easily. Can't wait for GPS chips to be built directly into cameras (with no external attachments). What's holding things up with Nikon, Canon, et. al.?

- GiSTEK photo tracker
Cool device, probably the best on the market, but the GUI leaves room for improvement. It tracks your travels whether you are taking pictures or not which makes sense. Desert motorcycling or walking in the city are recorded with exact speed andlocation.
6/6/09 I used it on a driving trip from Germany to Montenegro via the Italian alps, Croatia and Bosnia. Results: Very fast satellite aquistion, line of sight is not necessary but it kind of gets lost in long tunnels and wants to talk ... Read More

- Great tool, but documentation is limited
As a Mac user, the documentation and instructions for using this product is rather limited. I had to explore on my own a few times to figure out how to use certain features. That said, I am very happy with the device. It does a good job of tracking where I am when I shoot photos and once learned, it is very easy to add the GPS tags to my photos. The battery lasted longer than I expected and the unit alerts you when the battery charge is low (something that was not clear in the instructions). As an Apple ... Read More

- Great for keeping track of photos
I did a lot of research into this product before buying, and I'm happy I went ahead with it. I've tested it in a variety of applications:
1) Walking/hiking: accurate within about 10m - works better in rural environments due to less building interference, and allows you to bookmark where you took some really nice shots.
2) Jogging: accuracy really fell off - I imagine it has something to do with it bumping around on the lanyard on my neck - it was as much as a block off sometimes. ... Read More
