Manufacturer's Description--September 15, 2007:
With free lifetime traffic, Zagat Ratings, 3-D images of highway interchanges, Lane Assist, and text-to-speech, the Navigon 5100 is rich in features that directly empower navigation. Plus, it looks great on your dashboard. It’s slim — less than an inch thick — and sports an easy-to-read 3.5" touch screen wrapped in an elegant chrome frame.
The 5100 is the smaller sibling to Navigon's flagship 7100. The 5100 has a 3.5-inch screen, while the 7100 has a 4.3-inch widescreen. The 7100 also adds bluetooth-capability for hands-free mobile phone integration, so if you want that feature, do check out the 7100. Otherwise, the 5100 packs in a lot of useful features into its sleek frame.

- They should now be called NaviGONE.
I bought my Navigon GPS (7200T) because it had the most features for the lowest price. That still holds true. Very nice unit- attractive and works well, too. Recently, I wanted to update the maps, but there was no Freshmaps Activation card in the box from Amazon. You need the code on that card to get updates. So, I emailed Navigon support for assistance. They sent the following:

- Good quality, well made GPS Nav.
Yes the Germans did it again. This is a well made product that dose just what it suppose to, navigate. I have both the Tom-Tom one XL and this Navigon 5100. The Navigon is a better straight up navigator then the tom-tom. The tom-tom's interactive software is better and easier to use. I keep the Navigon in my truck and the tom-tom in my wife car. It's easier for her to operate. Also the life time traffic is handy. I use it going home from work to see where the traffic is. It saved me from some road rage ... Read More

- review after 1.5 years of ownership
feature rich but quirky and unreliable device.
I have not used the device much over the last year (purchased Dec 2007 Xmas. This is partly due to the limited amount of travel during this period and partly due to the unit not functioning. I liked the Navigon 5100 as far as features went and faithfully applied the firmware and software upgrades. I am technically savvy.
Within the 1st 5 uses the windshield holder broke and Navigon replaced it. Soon after this, the on/off switch stopped working ... Read More

- Excellent for the price.
If I had to sum this unit up in a single sentance, I'd call it "Set it and forget it." That's not to say this thing will solve all your ills, but that you set it up before you leave and let it go.
It has a nice mount packed with the device, as well as an antenna for the traffic.
That said, this is not a device you're going to be messing with while you drive. It does it's basic function pretty well. It will map out a route to your destination. It will (mostly) route you around traffic ... Read More

- great little gadget but its not up to date
this navigon gps is ok but its not up to date on places here in Oregon. As you travel thru town, it shows a store that has been gone for a few years and isnt updated on the new ones in its place. As we travel it doesnt show small rivers or creeks but all in all its not a bad device to show you where you are and going to. But for the price its a pretty good deal. I bought this as a b-day gift for a male friend and he loves it.
