With dramatically improved navigation, cleaning coverage, vacuum pickup, and particle filtration, the Roomba 530 vacuuming robot picks up amazing amounts of dirt and debris with the simple touch of a button. The powerful unit features innovative spinning side brushes that grab dirt and dust from corners and along wall edges, as well as two high-speed, counter-rotating brushes that pick up pet hair, cat litter, food crumbs, and other debris from floors. The vacuum sucks up the debris and deposits it into a large, easy-to-empty bagless dustbin, and its improved fine-filtration system traps dust, pollen, and other allergens inside the unit, reducing infiltration into the living environment.For added convenience, the vacuum's cleaning head automatically adjusts to transition from wood, tile, and linoleum to carpets and rugs, while improved anti-tangle technology ensures it won't get stuck on cords and rug fringe. If the unit begins to pick up a cord or carpet tassel, it will automatically reverse the direction of its brushes to extract the item. A gentle-touch bumper system senses obstacles so the vacuum automatically slows its approach, gently touches the obstacle, then redirects to continue cleaning under or around the object. Because it cleans under beds, couches, and other hard-to-reach areas, it actually vacuums more of the floor than a standard upright can. The vacuum also senses dirtier areas and spends more time cleaning them, and it uses built-in cliff sensors to avoid stairs and other drop-offs. In addition, invisible barriers can be set using the unit's Virtual Wall system. To mark off-limit areas, simply place a Virtual Wall at a doorway or other opening and adjust the infrared beam setting to the distance of the opening. I originally purchased for myself a Roomba Dirt Dog, a Scooba Floor scrubber and the Roomba Vacuum.I love all three!! Especially the Dirt Dog.Had no idea how much dirt we were tracking in from the garage until it wasn't there.Being so pleased with these 3 I bought a 4th Roomba for the office.My assistant was taking it home with her on the weekends.Finally, when her birthday rolled around, bought her a Roomba for her birthday.She was thrilled.These robots pick up an amazing amount of ... It won't replace my Hoover, but it's a great sweeper. Picks up dog hair and surface dust while we're at work. The suction is too light to pull out the deep dirt, so we still vacuum weekly - but it beats vacuuming daily. Maneuvers well around the house and furniture, but pick up your loose stuff beforehand as it can get hung up on them. When it does get hung, it shuts itself off - this is a good thing. The proximity sensor works well, the Roomba slows down before bumping into walls, so no hard bounces. ... Read More

Bought a 530 six months ago at Big Lots for $199 (re-manufactured). This was $100 cheaper than a new one. My son has an earlier model and likes it, so thought what the heck we'll give it a try.
Mindful of the maintenance problems in the previous reviews I waited until now to write.I must say this little machine is an amazing piece of engineering, the only thing better would be an android,and that probably won't happen in my lifetime.

The Roomba is great.It's fun to watch and it's so nice to let someone else do the bothersome task.I chose the 530 model because I wanted the more advance cleaning system, but didn't need some of the automatic and advanced features.Although it came with the virtual wall devices, we've never used them.It' much easier to close a door or put some other barrier to keep the unit where we want it.
After only 2 months, it broke.It would run for 10 seconds and then shut itself off, incessantly ... Read More
