Product Description:
Whether you're at the office or on the road with your MacBook Air, you can play and burn both CDs and DVDs with the MacBook Air SuperDrive. It's perfect when you want to watch a DVD movie, install software, create backup discs, and more. Only slightly bigger than a CD case, the MacBook Air SuperDrive slips easily into your travel bag when you hit the road and takes up little space on your desk or tray table when you're working. It connects to your MacBook Air with a single USB cable that's built into the SuperDrive. There's no separate power adapter, and it works whether your MacBook Air is plugged in or running on battery power.
Amazon.com Product Description:
The Apple MacBook Air SuperDrive is the perfect complement for the new, sleek MacBook Air. You can read and write CDs and DVDs, and it is perfect for watching a DVD movie, installing software, backing up your data, and more.
Burn and Play CDs and DVDs
The new Apple MacBook Air is thin and beautiful, and is able to do tricks such as borrow the optical drive of another computer on a network. But sometimes you need an optical drive on the go, and that's where the Apple MacBook Air SuperDrive comes in. Made by Apple with a design to complement the MacBook Air perfectly, the MacBook Air SuperDrive connects to your MacBook Air with a built-in USB cable you'll never lose. No extra power adapters are needed, as the SuperDrive simply draws power from the USB connection itself, regardless of whether or not your MacBook Air is plugged in.
The SuperDrive features speedy performance, writing DVD+R DL and DVD-R DL discs at up to 4x speed, and DVD-R, DVD+R, DVD-RW, and DVD+RW discs at up to 8x speed.
Small Size for Easy Portability
The MacBook Air SuperDrive employs a slot-loading design that makes it miniscule--barely larger than a CD case. You can easily drop the MacBook Air SuperDrive into your bag and take it everywhere you go. Now you can enjoy a DVD movie while on the plane or you can burn onto a CD that song you've been working on while you were on the tour bus.
What's in the Box
MacBook Air SuperDrive with attached USB cable, user's guide.

- Incredible Design!
Super simple, sleek & easy! No software installation required. Out of the box and directly into the MBA USB.... done. Love it.

- Not so much a review, just a note...
I've realized something. As someone was so astute as to point out, other DVD drives that work with the air can be used with ANY usb slot... So I realized, perhaps that means they will work WITH a hub on the air? worthy of testing, surely, and if I get the chance, I will write a more informed review after having tested this. Thank you for mentioning how other usb DVD ports work in correlation (right usage of the word? maybe?) with Mac's "Superdrive". Perhaps not so super after all.

- Useful, but seldom used
I had a first-generation MacBook Air from their availability last February until last week.I acquired the new, improved second-generation MacBook Air eight days ago.Throughout, I've had a SuperDrive, two over the period.
I found the SuperDrive useful for loading software, not for playing DVDs with my original MacBook Air, but not due to a fault in the SuperDrive. The processor on my particular computer was never adequate for playing video for longer than a few minutes, if that. ... Read More

- A No-brainer purchase
Congratulations to Apple for making a smart, stylish, simple and practical drive that isn't even matched price-wise by any of the competition. Now that I have it, I'm trying to think of excuses to use it. Why is it we initially got all fussed up about its absence from the first Air?As others have mentioned, the cord is quite short--especially if you're one of those who likes to "lap-compute," with the burner six or more feet away from you on a table or nightstand.'Fraid the little burner is ... - A Must-Have
Lightweight. no software to install. just plug in. Good price. If you have a Mac Air, can't do w/o but that's the price you pay for the convenience of a tiny portable laptop
