The SDR-H40's 42x optical zoom lens has the power you need to take dramatic close-ups or get remarkable shots of even distant subjects. Panasonic's Advanced Optical Image Stabilization (O.I.S.) suppresses the effects of handshake as you shoot. The system uses gyro sensors to detect handshake, then shifts a lens and adjusts the optical axis to compensate. The SDR-H40's 40GB internal hard disk drive lets you record continuously for up to 36 hours in LP mode without changing a disc, tape or other recording media. Panasonic's Anti-Shock Shield helps protect recorded video data from damage due to jolts and impact. The Drop Detect function senses if the camera is falling and moves the head away from the hard disk. You can transfer the motion-image data from the SD card or the camcorder's hard drive right to your PC using your USB port. The Panasonic Brand has been very upsetting to our family.We will keep the story as short as possible.The camcorder we bought in July stopped working in September and again in April.The sad part of the story is we had our 1st child on July 2nd.We missed Halloween, Thanksgiving and our dream vacation on Maui in April.I can't begin to tell you about the poor customer service I received from Panasonic.However I will be glad to give my cell phone number to call me before buying a Panasonic ... Rating: - It's an okay item.would not recommend for kids to use
the picture quality is very poor, but does the job.Battery life is good when used in moderation.I normally set the camera and close the screen to conserve batter.I haven't had any problems with this item and I've been to several trips.I've had my kid take some videos during vaction and it has been useless data, not even using third party software.It was like watching a rollercoaster.The OIS is useless on this device. If it really has OIS, it's not noticable.It doesn't help that is very ... Read More

The item must be good but the only problem is that I am unable to use the purchased product. The seller did not indicate that the camera have broken zoom-in zoom-out andvolume buton - this is realy unfortunate that the seller cheated and did not spell out any damage stuff. I would suggest that you need to take action aganist this seller as he/she is damaging your image. TYo fix the problem I need to repalce the whole outer box of the camera that I rerally dont know how much it will cost me and how much ... Read More

Overall Good:
1. Easy to use,
2. Movie quality is good,
3. No issues transferring movies from disk to PC,
4. No issues with battery life,
5. Software has good features (little difficult to install - due to XP and Vista Service Pack requirements).
Two issue (in my opinion):
1. No remote control,
2. No external light for night vision.
Rating: - Great camcorder
When I received my camcorder I was a little apprehensive since the box had been taped all over like it was used but it looked new and I was optomistic and most everything is fantastic, the reason I say most I cannot get it to make a DVD and may have to call Panasonic but it may just be something I am not doing right, so I will try again.If I can get that to work I am a happy camper and love this camera.
