Let me start off with saying that I love this gps. I started reading reviews before I purchased and seen this wasbthe product for me. I am from NYC and recently moved to Orlando Florida. This is my best friend. When I tell you having this gps is the best thing you will love it like how I do. This gps is also great due to the fact it scans local shops in various areas. - Provides incorrect info on estimated distance between starting loc and destination
While I was influenced by the reviews here, my final motivation to buy this Garmin model 260W was when it was offered at $149. I was initially happy with it but eventually discovered that it was giving false readings on the estimated distance between my starting point and destination. I tested other units and models and seemed like all Garmin exhibited same fault. Must be the software.
If you have a Garmin, any, you can easily determine if your unit is doing same thing. Try this:

I purchased this Garmin GPS because of it's features; large screen, spoken directions. I also bought it for what it didn't have; traffic information linked to pop up ads. My glove compartment full of maps are now obsolete. I took this unit for a test run today, and WOW! I swear it Thinks! I ignored the guide to avoid heavy traffic (also missed a turn) and it simply figures out a new route. The only change i made to the basic program was to have it speak in British English, which made the vocal tone less ... Read More
