- horizontal bands in picture
I've had the DCR-HC62 for a few months.I took it to the Grand Canyon, so yes, it was subjected to some dust. But about 1/4 of the takes have a horizontal banding, indicating a problem with the tape drive. My older Sony camera (I think a PC-100; it was made in 2000) took much rougher treatment with no problems, and, frankly, still has better picture quality.

- Great Features
Watch Video Here: http://www.amazon.com/review/R17CBN0JK821ET This camera has great features but I mostly purchased it for work with time lapse. I posted a video of one of my time lapse videos and have this camera always filming more. The camera works so well I ended up getting two. One for personal film work and the other for time lapse. Night vision is pretty good and with added infrared lights you can get some nice night shots. Add filters and creativity you can do a lot with this camera but it ... Read More

- Good Camera Confusing Software
The camera does everything that I want. My only quibble is with the software that comes with the camera. For some reason it only allows you to transfer video from tape using the I-Link connection. Other than that I am very happy with the camera. I actually would give it four stars but can't change my original post.

- Just got it
After agonizing over which camera to buy, I took the plunge and bought this one.I had bought and returned a Sony mini DVD camcorder after finding the results to be pretty poor.I didn't want to spend the dollars to move up to HD, and people told me that Mini DV was the highest quality image one could obtain short of going to HD.
After having the camcorder for about a week and using it a couple of times, I am overall pleased with the purchase. The camera does pretty well in relatively ... Read More

- Great camcorder. MiniDV makes a lot of sense
Great value! If you want great picture quality just less than HD, miniDV is the format. Think again about your priorities before buying a non-HDDVD or HDD camcorder as MPEG formats are lesser than miniDV in pic qty besides their other limitations.
*** The dcr hc-52 is widely available in stores. But look at hc-62 specs(much better resolution) and spend $50 more to get a much better product.
Put a filter over, yr lens will benefit a lot.
