"I just finished a record with Mudcrutch, my old band before the Heartbreakers. I am over the moon about it. I couldn't have hoped for it to be as good as it came out." In summer 2007, Tom Petty reunited Mudcrutch, consisting of himself, Heartbreakers Mike Campbell and Benmont Tench, original bandmember Tom Leadon, and Randall Marsh, who joined when Mudcrutch first went to Los Angeles in search of a record deal in the early 70s. Now, more than 30 years later, Mudcrutch finally has its debut album. With new Petty songs and a handful of covers, the self-titled disc is both classic rock and a rock classic.

- Solid Mudcrutch
I've been a Tom Petty fan for awhile and watched a good review of this CD on TV. It has a great assortment of music with a distictly country blue grass feel to it. I cannot listen to this CD without wanting to tap my fingers and hum along. It is one of my favorites for "riding down the road" and a Crutch of Mud can be leaned on!

- Review of Mudcrutch
Tom Petty has conclusively disproved the theory that you can't go home again. In fact when he went home and reformed his high school band, the result was one of his finest efforts in many years.Mudcrutch is crisp, driving and sharp. The songs range from classic folk renditions converted to swiftly paced rock beats, to gorgeous melodies that will remind you of "Last Dance With Maryjane" for instance.I was delightfully surprised by the fantastic consistency of this CD.The fact is I was expecting ... - Great Album for Rock Music Listeners
I will admit that I am not a huge Petty fan, but this is simply one of the best albums I have listened to in quite a while. It combines elements of classic rock, country, and Americana. The whole album is recorded "loosely". What I mean is, everybody seems to be sitting around just enjoying themselves and each other; nothing is strained. Kind of in the same spirit of the Wilbury's stuff, yet very unique from it.
All of this and then....Mike Campbell's stellar guitar performances.

- Don't knock it till you try it.
Does this sound like the '75 Mudcrutch? No. How could it, it's 2008....
I just wish Howie had lived to be a part of this project.
If you love The Heartbreakers, you'll like this album.
