- Pretty good machine -- works for me.
This machine replaced an RCA VCR/DVD combo unit which burned up and died within 6 months.
I have never actually hooked up my Panasonic to cable or antenna. My main use for this unit has been a simple way of transferring VHS to DVD.And it has done that flawlessly for me.
From reading the other reviews, I presume few people use the Still Picture (JPEG) feature? You can load JPG files into a DVD or USB drive, and this unit will group them into an "Album" and let you ... Read More

- consumer price, consumer quality
I've had one of these units at work for nearly a year, it's primary function is to transfer VHS-DVD. Unfortunately, the unit is riddled with bugs and success rate is about 2/3, the other 1/3 of production yields discs that are readable only on the unit itself, the discs seemingly unfinalized. The best success I have had is when I allow the VHS to play fully and when the unit stops playing it, catch it before it falls asleep or crashes and either accept it's request to finalize disc or eject the disc ... - The most important thing to know about this unit is....
Digital broadcasts cannot be recorded to video tape. The owner's manual clearly states this on page 18.I was thinking of buying it before I read that.I have the JVC DRMV100B 1080p Upconverting DVD Recorder VCR Combo with Built-in Tuner.I don't like the remote for the unit but It does record digital broadcast to video tape when I want to record to video tape. That in itself makes it a superior unit to the Panasonic.

- What I Expected
I bought this unit to replace a VCR.I use DVD+RW disc and record at the LP setting which gives me 4 hours.Using the DVD+RW allows me to reuse the disc as a VHS tape, but the quality of recording is much better than a VHS.No tracking to deal with as you do with a tape. The set up was easy.Programming is as easy as a VCR.The reviewer that complained that the unit did not have a hard drive should have looked at the specs.I knew what I was buying (no hard drive).Quality play back of DVD movies ...
