- Great player
I've been a fan of Philips DVD players for a while. This is their best player yet as they have finally worked out how to make a good remote control : very unlike their previous models which came with hideous chunks of plastic, this comes with a black remote that is slim, attractive and has an eject button. No more holding down "stop" just to kick out a DVD.
It's easily made region-free: just eject the disc, hit "Setup", go to the "Preferences" tab, type 138931, then use up and down ... Read More

- Video
Read the other reviews, a few are spot on.
I flashed it to get long file names, yes ac3 audio and 780 will lock it up and you need to unplug it.
Other than that, I'm very pleased, does play avi/divx and about any disc I toss in there. I really like the USB port, I can put all kinds of video on an external. I think I read the disc has to be fat32, that I don't really care for.
Overall, it does what it claims it'll do.

- Great DVD Player with DivX / AVI Capability
If you don't need Blue Ray Playback yet in a DVD player then check this Philips DVD player out. It is one of the few players in its price class that also plays AVI/DiVX files on DVD-R's/DVD+R's thus allowing you to put 8-10 hours of watchable video files on one regular single layer DVD. This is my third Philips DVD player and they are all still going strong. It's predecessort got even dropped from a cupboard by our two year old the other day and it still works without any problems afterwards. You ... Read More

- Phillips dvd player 5992
I have bought this product a little over a week now. it works well. Plays all the Video format i need - AVI ,DivX, VOB. the player reads any USB Storage device to FAT 32 format. MP3s and pics can be read and run quickly.
i took a few days to actually try an actual dvd. and it works well. I amimpressed with the USB 2.0 and with a USB HUB can be used to read a few USB storage devices.

- USB did it on this one...
Phillips are inexpensive but they put in details I really want/need...for example the multi-region for the others I own and the USB for this one. Easy usb access, affordable and it gets the job done. Keep the expectatiosn real and you won't be let down...these machines are slow, often lack other bells and whistles you may expect but provide decent price and durabiltiy.
