- Worked for a few DVDS, then stopped altogether, displaying green blocks instead of video
I bought one of these DVD players (Toshiba Upconverting 1080p Extended Detail DVD Player) just over a month ago. I've played less than 10 DVDs on it. I watched one movie without issue just last Saturday, then popped a second DVD in. Thirty-five minutes into the movie, the screen turned into green blocks with occasional pink blocks for variation. I could no longer view video on this DVD or any other - including those that had previously worked in this player.
I don't recommend buying ... Read More

- Piece of Junk
Worthless. Broke after just 2 months. Thats twice now with Toshiba, their 1500 dollar LCD TV as well. Flimsy 3 lb. chassis wasn't exactly encouraging. Today's cost cutting is making me ill. Back to Panasonic..

- Dead on Arrival
This DVD player was DOA -- dead on arrival. I literally have nothing good to say about it. It looks and feels cheap, and it doesn't even work! I plugged it into my TV, played The Dark Knight, and watched ~5 seconds before the screen went green. Thanks, Toshiba, but I think I'll stick to Samsung or Sony next time.
Amazon, as always, has excellent customer service and refunded me promptly.

- XD-E500 is a winner
I've had the Toshiba XD-E500 for a month now and have watched several dvd's on it. The picture quality is an obvious improvement over the non-upscaling player I previously used. I connected it to a 46 inch 1080P Samsung LCD using HDMI cable. The upscaling works great, even without activating any of the three XDE enhancement modes (Sharp, Color, Contrast). It's easy to toggle between the settings with the remote. The remote is designed well and easy to use. The player itself is only 8 inches deep ... Read More

- Good buy for what it is.
I'm pretty divided on how to review this player - so you can skip to my recommendation at the bottom of this review if you like.Basically, the Toshiba XD does what it is designed to do, which is make your DVDs look a bit better on your big HDTV - I think it does it very well, as most reviewers have pointed out. Perhaps the best part of it's design is that you can do a lot of tinkering (if you wish) to get the results you like most. For example, I don't like the over-saturated video look when it ... Read More
