- Dysfunctional software and lousy customer support
Although this software did a satisfactory job of scanning for viruses, it was extremely frustrating to use.The anti-spam feature never worked properly.Despite my best efforts, it continued to label some desirable messages as spam, and it failed to label undesirable messages as spam.I could never understand why this simple feature of the software did not work properly.Worst of all, however, a couple of years ago, I got the message that the software update would not run properly, and it would ... - Just say no
I don't use this at home, but I suffer from it at work. Speaking as a programmer...
- It consumes huge amounts of resources, both in CPU and RAM. My employer's work computers only have 512 MB, running XP. McAfee is happy to take over 100-200 MB, (counting its 3-4 different child processes, like EngineServer.exe), thus starving all the other programs. This brings the whole system to a halt for 10-30 minutes each morning as well as periodically, for 2-3 minutes at a time, during the day. ... Read More

- Used it for years with no troubles.
I've been a McAfee customer for years now with no difficulties. Their product has worked consistently and without any particular hangups.
I have encountered a few issues. One is that the McAfee software is a bit of a resource hog, particularly once it starts a full virus scan. Not a huge problem, but still an issue.
The other, more annoying problem is that McAfee shuts down all their programs if your license expires. I can't help but view this as a cheap move.

- A Software Come On
Before you buy this product do read all the reviews especially the bad ones. Be especially aware of the fact that this software comes with VERY LIMITED tech support unless you pay an added amount to McAfee. Many consider the added amount excessive. Check the McAfee website for the latest uptodate cost.
If you opt to forgo premium tech support (ADDITIONAL COST) be aware of the added wait time for help, even e-mail help. Their website says 24-48 hours for a reply. The times I have sent e-mail ... Read More

- Overall great protection for the money.
I did have some trouble registering the product once installed, but McAfee customer support, via Live Chat was able to quickly get me sorted out.
As a Norton user for many years, I can say that while Norton was easier to install/activate, that as far as protection McAfee found a few things for me that Norton did not, and also McAfee is a considerable amount less expensive.
It seems to be about the same on system resources as the Norton products I have used in the past. Maybe even ... Read More
